STUTTGART, Germany, Nov. 17, 2023–Isabell Werth rode the 17-year-old Emilio to victory in the World Cup Grand Prix Friday, the sixth win for the partnership this year.
Isabell and the Westfalen gelding were awarded 76.109% in the third of 11 qualifiers in Western Europea leading to the Final in Saudi Arabia next April.
This was the first qualifier this season for Isabell, who has won five World Cup titles over the past 30 years in a career that has made her the most successful Olympic equestrian in history.
Denmark’s Nana Skodborg Merrald placed second on Blue Hors Don Olymbrio, 15-year-old KWPN stallion, scoring 75.587% in the duo’s first qualifier for the annual championship centered on the Grand Prix Freestyle.
Fellow Dane Andreas Helgstrand on the nine-year-old Danish mare Queenparks Wendy placed third on 73.130%.
The Freestyle to determine points is scheduled for Saturday.
