OCALA, Florida, April 12, 2024–Ecuador’s Julio Mendoza Loor riding Jewel’s Goldstrike won the World Equestrian Center CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle in a high energy performance under lights Friday night.
Julio, based in Columbus, North Carolina, and the 13-year-old KWPN gelding were awarded 77.055% to give the Pan American Games gold medal partnership the victory.
Adrienne Lyle of Wellington on Lars van de Hoenderheide was runner-up on 76.145% in the first musical performance for the three-month old partnership. Adrienne and the 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding won the Grand Prix Thursday but dusted off the freestyle from Wizard, her 2012 Olympic mount, to fulfill a requirement but the score does not count toward qualifying for the U.S. Olympic “short” list and a trip to compete in Europe ahead of the Paris Games.
Pablo Gómez Molina of Spain on Ulises de Ymas, a 14-year-old P.R.E. gelding, placed third on 74.315%.
