WAYNE, Illinois, Aug. 27, 2023–Emily Miles rode the nine-year-old Sole Mio to the USA Developing Grand Prix championship Sunday in a sweep of both Festival of Champions competitions for the title.
Emily of La Cygne, Kansas, and the Rhinelander stallion were awarded 70.092% for the victory after winning the Intermediate II on 68.970% for a championship total of 69.643%.
Sole Mio, owned by Leslie Waterman, won the 5-year-old national title in 2019 as well as competing at the World Young Horse Championships the same year.
Ali Potasky of Versailles, Kentucky and the 10-year-old Inxs were runner-up in the Grand Prix on 69.398% to become reserve champion.
Rebecca Rigdon of Encinitas, California and Iquem, 10-year-old KWPN mare, placed third on 68.194%.
Fontenay, a Hanoverian gelding, was ridden by Canadian Sven Smienk to win the six-year-old championship on a Final score of 88.200%.
G.Q., a Danish Warmblood gelding competed by David Blake of Encinitas, California was reserve champion on 86.400%.
