WAYNE, Illinois, Aug. 26, 2023–Codi Harrison on Katholt’s Bossco became the 2023 U.S. Grand  Prix champion Saturday with Lehua Custer on F.J. Ramzes winning the Festival of Champions Grand Prix Freestyle to become reserve champion.

Codi of Wellington, Florida and the 16-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding completed the three-phase national championship on 71.898% after their musical performance earned the pair 75.675% for third place. Three of the five judges–all Americans–placed the duo first. Codi and Bossco won both the Grand Prix and the Special.

Lehua, also based in Wellington, and the 13-year-old Ramzes bred at Cornell University in upstate New York, scored 76.350% to win the Freestyle and earn the pair a total of 70.536%, with scores of 69+ in both the Grand and the Special preventing them from challenging for the championship. One judge placed the combination at the top of the Freestyle.

Katie Duerrhammer and the 12-year-old Paxton were runners-up in the Freestyle on 75.775% and put the duo in third place overall.

Sabine Schut-Kery of San Marcos, California on the nine-year-old Sonnenberg’s Jersey won the Developing Prix St. Georges championship.

Sabine, who claimed the seven-year-old title on Gorgeous Latino a day earlier, rode the stallion to third place on 72.222% Saturday, but enough for a two-competition total of 71.999% to clinch the title.

David Blake of Encinitas, California on the eight-year-old mare Delilah won Saturday’s St. Georges on 73.240% and a total of 71.522% from the two competitions for reserve champion.

Lars Petersen, the Danish Olympian riding as an American in his first Festival of Champions, was runner-up on Giovanni – Bell in Saturday’s competition but the pair were eliminated from the initial outing and ended up 10th overall.
