AACHEN, Germany, July 2, 2023–World No. 1 Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera BB won the Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday for a sweep of the CDIO5* to be crowned Dressage Champion of Aachen.

Jessica and the 16-year-old Trakehner mare scored 90.820%, a result of at least 90% for the 10th time in 11 musical performances since the first at that level in the Tokyo Olympics. Jessica and Dalera are Tokyo Olympic and 2021 European champions, World Cup champion in 2022 and 2023. With the results of Aachen’s World Equestrian Festival, the duo extended their international winning streak to 25 beginning with Tokyo in 2021. Sönke Rothenberger and Fendi beat Jessica and Dalera at the German Championships last month, a national competition with five German judges.

The total surpasses the best unbroken string of 22 victories by Valegro ridden by Charlotte Dujardin from April 27, 2012 to April 4, 2014 and included the 2012 London Olympics, the 2013 Europeans and the World Cup Final in 2014.

Denmark’s Nanna Skodborg Merrald on Blue Hors Zepter that she ended up riding when a young rider who was to take over 15-year-Oldenburg gelding quit Blue Hors, was runner-up on 88.730%. That was not only a personal best for the latest partnership but also in the horse’s career that had previously been competed by Daniel Bachmann Andersen and Patrik Kittel of Sweden.

Charlotte Dujardin on the 10-year-old KWPN gelding Imhotep was third on 88.415%, a personal best in only the third Big Tour musical performance for the duo.

Imhotep is Charlotte’s third horse to join the 80% Grand Prix club, the other two being Valegro and Mount St. John Freestyle.

Charlotte and Imhotep were also reserve Dressage Champion of Aachen behind Jessica and Dalera.

Nanna and Zepter were third with Charlotte Fry on Everdale, her Tokyo Olympic mount, fourth and Germany’s Frederic Wandres on Bluetooth OLD fifth.

Frederic was the best dressage rider of the entire show with victories in the CDI4* as well as high placings in the CDIO5*.
