LEXINGTON, Virginia, May 19, 2023–Julio Mendoza Loor and Jewel’s Goldstrike racked up their fifth win so far this year in capturing the CDI3* Grand Prix Friday.

Julio, who lives in Columbus, North Carolina but rides for Ecuador, scored 74.326% on the 12-year-old KWPN gelding.

Since beginning Big Tour 14 months ago, the duo has won nine of 13 starts, including two at the highly competitive both Wellington’s Global Dressage Festival the World Equestrian Center in Ocala. He also sandwiched a sweep of the Bolivarian Games at Small Tour in Bogota, Colombia to qualify for the Pan American Games later this year.

James Koford of Southern Pines, North Carolina made the Big Tour debut of Hatsjie, 11-year-old KWPN gelding, for runner-up on 67.674%. The horse was previously developed to Small Tour by Viktorijia Kundrotaite of Lithuania.

Gabriel Armando of Argentina and San Rio, 15-year-old Oldenburg gelding, were third on 66.739%. Gabriel is aiming for a start at the Pan American Games later this year that, if successful would be his second, having competed at the 2007 championships in Rio de Janeiro.
