THERMAL, California, Jan. 6, 2022–Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper, newly ranked No. 10 horse in the world, won the World Cup Grand Prix Saturday to move within one ride of qualifying for a start at the Final in Omaha in three months.

Steffen and the 15-year-old KWPN stallion scored 75.609% for the win, the highest mark of the three Grand Prix that the pair have performed seeking one of three places reserved for North America in the annual championship of 18 horse and rider pairs from around the world.

The Freestyle that decides qualifying points is scheduled for Saturday with only three combinations in this event at the Desert International Horse Park and sponsored by Four Winds Farm that owns Mopsie as Suppenkasper is nicknamed.

Steffen of San Diego, California and Suppenkasper have already earned 40 points for two previous wins and victory in the Freestyle would give the duo 60 points, the maximum available in three scores for qualifying.

Anna Buffini also of San Diego and the  16-year-old Hanoverian mare FRH Davinia la Douce placed second in the Grand Prix on 70.478%.

Claire Darnell of  Mount Vernon, Washington and Harrold S, 11-year-old gelding were third on 67.783%.

Alice Tarjan of Oldwick, New Jersey appears assured of a start in Omaha on the American-bred Serenade MF with three qualifying scores for a total of 57 points, the most of any rider in the North American League.

Adrienne Lyle of Wellington, Florida who won her first qualifier for Omaha on Salvino has three more qualifiers at the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington to attempt to get an invitation to Omaha.

Adrienne and Salvino were on the same silver-medal-winning Olympic and World Games teams as Steffen and Suppenkasper.
