LYON, France, Oct. 27, 2022–Jessica von Bredow-Werndl rode TSF Dalera BB to victory at Equita Lyon World Cup Grand Prix Thursday in the return to competition for the world No. 1 after a six-month baby break.

Jessica and the 15-year-old Trakehner mare were awarded 81.739% in her quest to go to the Final at Omaha next April to defend the title she won in Leipzig, Germany rearlier this year. It was the first World Cup championship for Jessica and Dalera that partnered to win Olympic team and individual gold in Tokyo and swept the European Championships two months later.

The duo received six marks of 10 with the only major mistake in the line of 15 one-tempi changes.

The duo needs to start in only two of the 11 qualifiers in the Western European League to earn a ticket to Omaha. She entered an international event a month ago but was blocked by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) that required her to complete a full six months’ maternity leave from the sport.

Benjamin Werndl, Jessica’s older brother at 38 years of age, was runner-up on Famoso OLD on 77.00%. Benjamin and the 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding were on Germany’s bronze medal world championships team in August.

Sweden’s Patrik Kittel and the 10-year-old Swedish Warmblood Touchdown were third on 75.261%. This pair also competed at the world championships.

Nanna Merrald Rasmussen of Denmark and the 17-year-old Atterupgaards Orthilia scored 74.389% for fourth. Nanna on Blue Hors St. Schufro was second in the circuit opening event last week. She was fourth on Orthilia in the Grand Prix at the Final in Leipzig in April

Isabell Werth and Emilio, a 16-year-old Westfalen gelding, placed fifth on 73.413%. Isabell has won this event five times, including three times on Emilio.
