LYON, France, Oct. 25, 2022–Jessica von Bredow-Werndl returns to competition on TSF Dalera BB at Equita Lyon World Cup event this week as the No. 1 rider in the world begins her campaign to defend the championship title at the Final in Omaha.
Jessica who took a break for the birth of her second child after riding the 15-year-old Trakehner mare to claim her first World Cup title at Leipzig, Germany in April. An entry by Jessica in an international event a month ago was blocked by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) citing a requirement to complete a full six months’ maternity leave from the sport.
As defending champion–she won the title in Leipzig, Germany last April–Jessica needs to compete in two qualifiers to earn a start in Omaha next April.
The German partnership that won Olympic team and individual gold at Tokyo; team gold at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon and team, individual and freestyle gold at the 2021 European Championships, is one of 15 rider and horse combinations entered for Lyon.
Also in the lineup is Isabell Werth, the most successful Olympic equestrian, on Emilio that was her partner in winning this event in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and on the now retired Weihegold OLD in 2016 and 2021.
Lyon is the second of 11 Western European qualifying events. Denmark’s Carina Cassoe Krüth and Heiline’s Danciera won the first in Aarhus, Denmark last week.
