More than $60,000 has been awarded to seven projects across the United States–two of them for programs directed at active and former servicemen and women–in the inaugural year of the U.S. Federation’s Opportunity Fund.
The projects are:
–City to Saddle–Mesa Farm of Rutland, Massachusetts–Replace and upgrade equipment such as helmets, safety stirrup irons, stirrup leathers and a vaulting surcingle;
–Cloverleaf Equine Center of Clifton, Virginia–To meet growing demand for equine-assisted mounted and unmounted services for recovering service members and military veterans;
–Detroit Horse Power–Support construction of equestrian center within Detroit city limits to expand community impact with youth through equine activities and other educational resources;
–Heartland Therapeutic Riding of Overland Park, Kansas–Improve arena to make it usable year-round in an area that experiences very hot and very cold weather;
–HorseSensing of Shelbyville, Kentucky–Renovate a second home for female veterans in program providing housing for military veterans from across the country attending the Kentucky program;
–Solid Strides of Pleasant Hill, Oregon–Hiring a lead instructor to develop camps, lesson programming and internship opportunities for students otherwise unable to afford participating in equestrian sport, and
–Special Equestrians of Warrington, Pennsylvania–Buying new computers and software to improve operational efficiency and better support client needs.
