Charlotte Dujardin and Mount St. John Freestyle climbed to No. 4 in the world in the first International Equestrian Federation rankings of 2020 released Friday after the British combination’s performance at the Amsterdam World Cup.
Charlotte and the 11-year-old Hanoverian mare moved up from sixth at the end of 2019 and at No. 4 rank behind Germany’s superstars Isabell Werth on Bella Rose at No. 1, Weihegold OLD at No. 2 and 2016 Olympic gold medal team mates Dorothee Schneider and Showtime in third.
The No. 1 ranking for Bella Rose was the sixth month in a row, taking over from Weihegold that had held the top spot for 31 months.
Isabell and Weihegold, 15-year-old Oldenburg mare, won the Amsterdam World Cup to qualify for the Las Vegas Final in mid-April where she could meet Charlotte and Freestyle for a showdown for the annual world championship.
The ranking for Charlotte was the highest since the retirement of Valegro in 2016 after 36 months ranked No. 1 in the world over a four-year-period.
The two biggest increases in standings of the top 50 were both boosted by the Amsterdam results–Germany’s Jessica von Bredow-Werndl on Zaire-E up to 14th from 23rd the end of 2019 and Edward Gal of the Netherlands vaulting to 28th from 157th on Glock’s Zonik.
For the first time since Laura Graves on Verdades was ranked 10th in the world in March, 2015 no Americans were ranked in the top 10 in the latest standings. The highest ranked is Adrienne Lyle on Salvino at No. 20 (see separate story).
