WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 13, 2018–Shelly Francis rode Dock to victory in the Adequan Global Dressage Festival CDI3* Grand Prix Special Saturday for the first back-to-back wins in almost two years.
Shelly and the 15-year-old Oldenburg gelding scored 70.404 per cent, two days posting a personal best result to win the Grand Prix at the 2018 inaugural event in the Global circuit at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. The previous consecutive wins at a show came in Wellington in March, 2016.
Shelly, of neighboring Loxahatchee, credits losing 40 pounds/18 kg. in the past three or four months with presenting “a picture that looks much nicer” and she feels it is helping he riding.
The 59-year-old Shelly who is 5-foot, 2 inches/157cm tall, is competing both Doctore and Danilo, two horses owned by Patricia Stempel, as prospects for the U.S. team at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon in September. Shelly rode Pikant on the U.S. team at the WEG in Rome in 1998.
Canada’s Jill Irving on Arthur, one of her two horses she competed in Europe last summer, placed second on 68.723 per cent.
Megan Gardner of North Plains, Oregon but is training in Florida with Anne Gribbons, was third on 66.979 per cent.
