STUTTGART, Germany, Nov. 15–Helen Langehanenberg and Damon Hill NRW won the German Master World Cup Grand Prix Friday in their first competition since their team gold medal performance at the European Championsips almost three months ago while Isabell Werth placed second on El Santo NRW that is at the center of a six-month suspension she is appealing.
The 2012 Olympic combination of Helen and the 13-year-old Westfalen stallion (Donnerhall x Rubenstein I) that is Germany’s top ranked partnership at No. 2 in the world scored 83.383 per cent in the Grand Prix at the second leg of the West European League World Cup winter circuit.
Isabell, who also was on the top placed German team at the Europeans, scored 75.298 per cent on El Santo, the 12-year-old Rhinelander gelding she competed for only the second time this year. Sweden’s Tinne Vilhelmsson-Silfvén and Don Auriello were third on 75.213 per cent.
The German federation just 10 days ago imposed a six-month suspension on Isabell after determining she was responsible for El Santo to have ingested the drug cimetidine. The drug is not known to be performance-enhancing but is typically used for stomach disorders and was admnistered to a horse stabled next to El Santo at Isabell’s farm. She has appealed.
The Freestyle to determine points in the West European League standings is scheduled for Saturday.
The U.S. rider Lisa Wilcox who had been scheduled to compete at Stuttgart with Pikko del Cerro HU and Denzello withdrew both horses after she was eliminated on Pikko del Cerro at Oldenburg last week as part of a European training and competition swing.
