Rocher, the Westfalen mare with big floppy ears and ridden by George Williams of the United States, has died at age 27.
Rocher (Rolls Royce x Frühlingsstern) bred in Germany and owned by Charles and Joann Smith, was fan favorite competing on both sides of the Atlantic. She was bred in Germany
Among her achievements was a fifth place finish at the World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2003, was named U.S. Dressage Federation Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle Horse of the Year also in 2003 and won Dressage at Devon three times.
The last international competition was in Wellington, Florida in 2009 when the mare was 18 years old.
Rocher retired to the Smith’s Gypsy Woods Farm in Richwood, Ohio.
