LYON, France, Oct. 31, 2025–Justin Verboomen and Zonik Plus won the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Friday, but challenged by Britain’s Becky Moody on the home-bred Jagerbomb.
The Belgian rider and his nine-year-old Rhineland stallion were awarded 87.075% for the win, a day after capturing the Grand Prix on the pair’s 81.195%, their first score at 80% or better at Grand Prix.
Justin said that Zonik was “a little bit tired” Friday in which the pair notched their 12th win in 18 starts since beginning Big Tour 11 months ago.
The duo, individual and Freestyle champions at the European Championships two months ago, earned 20 points for the performance that put the pair into a group with the same result or higher in the highly competitive Western European League in which several of the riders are seeking a start at the Final in Fort Worth, Texas next April. This was the second of 10 Western European qualifiers with the next event scheduled for Stuttgart, Germany in two weeks.
Becky Moody on Jagerbomb, 11-year-old KWPN gelding that she competed on Britain’s medal-winning teams at last year’s Paris Olympics and the Europeans, scored 85.175%, with two of the five judges giving the pair higher artistic scores than the winning partnership. However, Justin and Zonik was top in all the technical results.
Larissa Pauluis on Flambeau, 15-year-old KWPN gelding, on the Belgium team at the Europeans as well as the Paris Olympics, placed third on 79.560%.
