WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 29, 2025–Marcus Orlob and Jane claimed their fourth straight victory at the with an “on and off ride” in the CDI4* Grand Prix Special Saturday, the final Big Tour competition of the 2025 Global Dressage Festival.

The Paris Olympic team partnership of Marcus, based primarily in neighboring Loxahatchee, and 11-year-old Jane were on scores close to 75%, dropped to 67% with a spook and mistakes in two-tempi changes then climb back with a final center line of 11 marks of 8 and 14 at 7.5 for a winning score of 70%.

“It was really a fine feeling and in between great and then I lost her completely again and then thank God she came back again so it was like an on and off ride,” he explained but was not aware of any particular action that triggered the spook. Spectators reported a loud bang of a pan.

“I have no idea, honestly, because again, a little bit interesting because the warm up was good and she walked in okay, like better than last time; like a little spook. And then I felt like it was okay, the first part, and then all of a sudden I lost her. I don’t know, she was looking here at the crowd and the entrance and I couldn’t get her attention back. So, I don’t know.

“It’s a little bit frustrating thing. I mean, if you can imagine now this test without spookiness and mistakes, like, you know, it would be high 70s. That’s a little bit disheartening but again I’m happy that she went through, that I could finish the test on a decent note. She tried to relax again at the end and I think the last center line was great.”

Katherine Bateson Chandler on the 13-year-old mare Haute Couture was the only other entry in the class and scored 66.723%.

Marcus is expected to be among six American rider and horse combinations to compete in Europe this summer leading to the premier World Equestrian Festival CDIO5* Nations Cup at Aachen, Germany.

His aim, he said, is to take Jane to national competitions in Germany whenever possible to just hang out and become more acclimated to different horse show venues, similar to walking around Wellington’s busy nearby Winter Equestrian Festival of jumpers and hunters.

“Unfortunately you can’t really see it in the ring but training at home or when we go to WEF, this got much better,” he said. “So that’s why I’m a little bit disappointed that it’s in the ring again because the hacking overall is much more settled so she definitely makes progress. Now I need to just prove it in the ring.”

Jennifer Williams of Olympia, Washington and the 11-year-old gelding Joppe K won the CDI3 Grand Prix Special on 69.340% after capturing the Grand Prix Thursday for the pair’s first victories this winter circuit.
