WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 28, 2025–Kasey Perry-Glass rode Heartbeat W.P. to victory in the final Friday Night Freestyle under lights at the winter-long Global Dressage Festival ahead of the American Olympic rider heading to Europe to perform on the world’s most competitive summer circuit.

Kasey, based in Wellington, and the 14-year-old Heartbeat were awarded 75.915% for the win in only the second musical performance for the partnership this season. The duo placed second behind Marcus Orlob on Jane in the Grand Prix Thursday.

Ashley Holzer, also of Wellington, was runner-up on Hawtins San Floriana on a personal best 74.840%.

Camille Carier Bergeron and her Canadian 2024 Olympic team mount Finnländerin, a 15-year-old Oldenburg mare, placed third on 73.370%.

Kasey described Heartbeat as having more power than Dublet, her 2016 Olympic bronze medal team mount that also earned silver in the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon.

“I’m quite small compared to Heartbeat,” that she acquired three years ago at an emotional period when her mother-in-law was dying.

“So to be able to make him a small woman’s ride has been a journey. And I feel like we’re just right there.”

She described it as “just a managing game and really figuring out what works for him and keeps him comfortable. But I do feel that once I get in the ring, he’s a true showman. He kind of puts on his face and he’ll really try to show off the best thing that he has.”

Kasey said she is being coached mainly by Allison Brock, her 2016 Olympic team mate, with help from Adrienne Lyle.

Ashley Holzer who rode Hawtins San Floriana said she found it a “bit tricky” taking over the advanced trained horse from Britain’s Charlotte Dujardin.

“I’ve always sort of brought up and trained my own horses, so I have that relationship with them, and I know them inside and out,” she said.

“I struggled sort of feeling that bond with her,” Ashley said including a lot of time this past summer with Carl Hester in Britain who had coached Charlotte on the horse.

“And it’s just really been in the last few weeks where I’ve started to feel okay,” she said. “She’s coming on board. She’s speaking my language. We’re having a bit of a relationship now.”
