OCALA, Florida, May 25, 2024–Naïma Moreira Laliberté’s victory on her 17-year-old Statesman to win the World Equestrian Center CDI3* Grand Prix Special Saturday a day after capturing the Grand Prix strengthened her bid for a place on Canada’s team at the Paris Olympics.

Naïma and the  Hanoverian gelding scored 70.723% for the win the Special that like the Grand Prix was the pair’s highest score in two years. And the only combination in both competitions to score at least 70% in one of the last competitions in North America before the June 9 deadline for Canadians seeking to earn scores for consideration for the Paris team of three riders and horses.a

Fellow Canadian Chris von Martels on the 15-year-old Eclips, his Tokyo Olympic team mount, was runner-up in the Special on 69.128%.

The USA’s Austin Webster riding the 11-year-old U.S.-bred gelding Indiana R in the horse’s international debut at this event was third on 67.957%.

Naïma and Statesman were on the Canadian gold medal team at the 2019 Pan American Games and at the 2023 Pan Ams where Canada took bronze. She rode Statesman as an individual at the 2022 World Championships when Canada did not enter a team.
