HERNING, Denmark, Oct. 21, 2023–Sweden’s Patrik Kittel and Touchdown won the World Cup Grand Prix Saturday to kick off the Western European League leading to the Final in Saudi Arabia next April.
Patrik and the 11-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding scored 75.152% in the opening competition of the Western European circuit of 11 qualifiers. The Freestyle to decide points toward qualifying for the Final is scheduled for Sunday.
Patrik and Touchdown, the unanimous choice for first by the five judges, competed for Sweden at the European Championships last month.
Denmark’s Andreas Helgstrand and the nine-year-old Danish Warmblood mare Queenparks Wendy were runner-up on 73.348%.
Fellow Dane Anna Kasprzak on Addict de Massa, 13-year-old Portuguese Sport Horse stallion, placed third on 72.870%.
