MUNICH, Germany, May 19, 2023–Frederic Wandres rode his top German team mount Duke of Britain to a personal best score Friday to win the CDI5* Grand Prix.

In the first international competition for the 16-year-old Duke of Britain in six months, the pair were awarded 77.739% for the victory.

Frederic and the British-bred Hanoverian gelding were on Germany’s world championship bronze medal team last year. Frederic has competed at Wellington’s Global Dressage Festival the past three years, but Duke remains at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen, Germany during the winter.

Therese Nilshagen of Sweden and the 16-year-old stallion Dante Weltino OLD scored 74.000% for runner-up.

The partnership is now in its eighth year at Big Tour heading to a possible start at the European Championships in September after a career that has already included the Tokyo Olympics, the 2018 and 2022 world championships as well as three Europeans, two earning team bronze medals.

Matthias Alexander Rath, also of Germany, and Thiago GS, 10-year-old Oldenburg stallion by Totilas, was third on 73.196%.

Germany’s Laura Strobel and Valparaiso won the CDI3* Grand Prix Special on 69.936% a day after winning the Grand Prix.

Anna-Christina Abbelen also of Germany and Sam Donnerhall were runner-up on 69.447%, as the pair was in the Grand Prix.
