WELLINGTON, Florida, Feb. 26, 2023–American riders and horses took the top two places in the Intermediate 1 Freestyle while riders from Ecuador and two European countries captured Grand Prix top spots Sunday to wrap up the Stillpoint Farm CDIO3* Nations Cup that was launched at the Global Dressage Festival 10 years ago.

Ecuador’s Julio Mendoza Loor, based in Columbus, North Carolina won the Grand Prix on Jewel’s Goldstrike with a personal best score of 79.325%, three of the five judges awarding 80%-plus. Riding as an individual in the team competition, he also won the Grand Prix Special over combinations from six countries.

Anna-Christina Abbelen, a member of  German gold medal youth teams in European Championships as well as her first performance in a senior Nations Cup , rode Sam Donnerhall to runner-up on 77.160%, also a personal best. This was her first time in Wellington.

Sweden’s Caroline Darcourt on Lord Django placed third on 76.895%.

USA’s under-25 star Christian Simonson, based in Wellington where he is coached by Adrienne Lyle, took gold on Son of a Lady in the CDIO3* Intermediate 1 Freestyle on a personal best 78.445%.

Charlotte Jorst, a resident of Reno, Nevada now based primarily in Wellington where she works with Lars Petersen, was awarded silver for placing second on Zhaplin Langholt on a score of 76.205%.

Denmark’s Alexander Yde Helgstrand, based in Wellington and also riding as an individual, rode Belantis for bronze on 74.665%.
