WELLINGTON, Florida, Feb. 9, 2023–Denmark’s Alexander Yde Helgstrand and Belantis won the Global Dressage Festival CDI1* Prix St. Georges Thursday in the 19-year-old rider’s first senior international competition.

Alexander and the 14-year-old German Sport Horse gelding were awarded 72.206% for the win, seven months after leading Denmark to European Young Rider Championships team silver. The horse was ridden at Small Tour by Germany’s Isabell Werth in 2016.

Alexander, the son of Andreas Helgstrand, began competing Belantis internationally in March last year. He is working full time at the Helgstrand Equestrian Center where he is coached by Lars Petersen, a star of Danish dressage but who now rides for the United States and manages the facility.

Charlotte Jorst of Reno, Nevada, on Zhaplin Langholt, 10-year-old gelding, placed second with 70.392%. Charlotte put off plans to retire her Kastel’s Nintendo, who is 20 years-old, but, she said, the  Dutch stallion made it clear he is not ready to give up appearances center stage.

Amanda Perkowski of Wellington and the eight-year-old American-bred mare Sonata MF was third on 70.196%.
