WELLINGTON, Florida, Feb. 8, 2024–Salvino was pulled out of the Global Dressage Festival World Cup qualifier Wednesday after what rider Adrienne Lyle reported was a “colic episode.”

Serenade MF, the 10-year-old American-bred mare, will undergo another veterinary inspection hours before the qualifying Grand Prix Thursday when a re-inspection “jog” Wednesday was put off for a day.

Adrienne said of the 16-year-old Hanoverian stallion that has to put off until month completing qualification for the World Cup Final in Omaha eight weeks away:

“He is doing OK now but had a colic episode and we don’t want to push him to go today.

“His welfare is always our top priority,” said of Salvino, the horse she rode for silver medals on U.S. teams at Olympics and World Equestrian Games.

One more North American League competition, on Mar. 1-5 at Global after this week for Adrienne and Salvino to qualify for the Final in Omaha April 3-8.

The duo, currently top ranked among Americans on the world standings, has won two qualifiers and a third victory clinches a start for Omaha.

“We wish the best of luck to all the other competitors and will be there to cheer them on,” said Adrienne.

Salvino, owned by Betsy Juliano, lives at TYL farm about a mile from the Global show grounds.

Steffen Peters of San Diego, California, the 2009 World Cup champion, has won three starts on Suppenkasper to earn an invitation as one of three combinations from North America to go to Omaha.

Alice Tarjan of Oldwick, New Jersey on Serenade MF and Sarah Tubman of Wellington on First Apple are in this week’s qualifier seeking to place high enough to enhance their chances of an invite to Omaha, that would be their first World Cup Final and the first Big Tour championship.

Alice and Serenade was the reserve combination for the U.S. team at the world championships last year. Sarah and First Apple won both individual and freestyle gold medals at Small Tour at the 2019 Pan American Games.

The absence of Salvino will have an impact on the North American standings but also for Western European riders competing at Global.
