WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 26, 2023–Christian Simonson rode Son of a Lady to victory in the Global Dressage Festival CDI1* Prix St. Georges Thursday in the first senior international competition for the partnership.

Christian, based in Wellington, and the 12-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding were awarded 74.657% in the first event for the pair that was competing at Young Rider level up until six weeks ago.

Between changing levels on Son of a Lady, Christian received the prestigious U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation’s 2023 Lionel Guerrand-Hermès Trophy recognizing a junior or young rider in an Olympic discipline who exemplifies the team’s ideals of sportsmanship and horsemanship.

Germany’s Lars Ligus and Baron Bollwerk, 12-year-old Westphalen, were runner-up on 72.451% in the first international competition for the duo.

Amanda Perkowski, based in Wellington,of and Sonata MF, an American-bred eight-year-old mare, placed third on 70.882%.

The 20-year-old Simon, coached by Adrienne Lyle, was three-time gold medalist at the 2021 North American Youth Championships on Zeaball Deawind.

Son of a Lady, acquired last year from Denmark’s Carina Cassøe Krüth, was debuted by the American duo at the Young Rider Nations Cup in Hagen, Germany followed s were was competed at young rider individual at Aachen, Germany where they placed third in the Freestyle.

Since returning to Florida last year, the partnership won six straight young rider competitions.
