WAYNE, Illinois, Aug. 27, 2022–Alice Tarjan and the American-bred Serenade MF won the 2022 United States Grand Prix Championship Saturday with a victory in the Freestyle to complete a sweep of the Big Tour competitions. The Festival of Champions Grand Prix title was the second straight for Alice who won on Candescent in 2021.
Alice of Oldwick, New Jersey and the nine-year-old Hanoverian mare scored 76.985% for the musical performance. With a Grand Prix score of 73.869% and 73.467% in the Special, the U.S. world championship team reserve partnership was the clear winner on a combined result of 74.176%. Serenade (Sir Donnerhall x Don Principe) was bred by Maryanna Hayman, of Marydell Farm in Columbus, North Carolina.
Katie Duerrhammer of Greenwood Village, Colorado and Paxton, 11-year-old Westfalen gelding, placed second on 74.9880%. The pair posted 71.680% to overcome a Grand Prix score of 68.173% to bring their total up to 70.597%.
Emily Miles of La Cygne, Kansas, in third on Java Dulce, experiencing a similar championship on the 11-year-old Danish Warmblood. Emily and Java Dulce scored 72.384% in the Freestyle, 70.260% in the Grand Prix and 66.403% in the Special for a total of 69.036%.
