Ireland’s world championships dressage team of Alex Baker/Dutchman, Sorrell Klatzko/Turbo, Abigail Lyle/Giraldo and Anna Merveldt/Esporim was announced Monday.
The Irish squad:
Alex Baker, 26 years old, and Dutchman, 14-year-old KWPN gelding, owned by Daniel Champion & Alex, Carol & Tim Baker
Sorrell Klatzko, 42, and Turbo, nine-year-old Westfalen gelding, owned by Sorrell Klatzko & Janine Shoffner
Abigail Lyle, 37, and Giraldo, 11-year-old KWPN gelding, owned owned by Fenella Quinn
Anna Merveldt, 59, and Esporim, 13-year-old Lusitano stallion, owned by Mario Greco, Eleonore Higgins, Michael Higgins & Giovanna Mazza
Non traveling reserve is Dane Rawlins and Espoire.
Alex Baker competed at the 2016 and 2017 European Young Rider Championships and at the 2021 World Young Horse Championships.
Sorrell Klatzko had her first Big Tour competition a year ago on Turbo, with 16 CDI3* starts across continental Europe.
Abigail Lyle competed at Small Tour in Nations Cups in 2014 and 2015 and at the World Young Horse Championships on Giraldo six-year-old in 2017.
Anna Merveldt is the most experienced rider–1992 Barcelona and 2012 London Olympics; World Equestrian Games at Stockholm 1990, Den Haag, Netherlands, 1994, Jerez, Spain 2002, Aachen, Germany 2006 and Caen, France 2014. European Championships in 1993, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2oo7, 2009, 2011, 2019 and 2021.
