Steffen Peters on Suppenkasper and Adrienne Lyle on Salvino, team mates on silver medal teams at both the 2018 World Games and the Tokyo Olympics, are the top ranked Americans just a month away from the world championships with Ashley Holzer on Valentine, Charlotte Jorst on Kastel’s Nintendo, Katie Duerrhammer on Quartett and Alice Tarjan on the U.S.-bred Serenade MF vying for the other two places on the team.

The International Equestrian Federation rankings as of the end of June and including the two major observation events in Europe, Rotterdam and Aachen CDIO5*s show Steffen of San Diego, California on Suppenkasper, 14-year-old KWPN gelding, the top ranked American partnership at 19th in the world, up from 30th at the end of May.

Steffen has competed the horse nicknamed “Mopsie” for 4 1/2 years, and is the most experienced American in contention with five Olympics, four world championships and five World Cup Finals, including one of only two U.S. riders to win the annual global title. Suppenkasper is owned by Four Winds Farm and Akiko Yamazaki who also owned Ravel and Legolas.

Adrienne and Salvino, 15-year-old Hanoverian stallion, moved up to 29th in the world from 70th the previous month based on their results in Aachen’s CDI4*.

Adrienne of Wellington, Florida and Salvino also competed at the 2019 World Cup Final. The horse is owned by Betsy Juliano LLC.

Up to eight rider and horse combinations have been nominated for the championships but will be whittled down to four pairs and possible reserve for definite entries due July 25.

Nominated entries are:

Ashley Holzer, a four-time Olympian for Canada but lives in Wellington and now rides for the United States, is ranked 85th on Valentine. Ashley and the 12-year-old Hanoverian mare earned their top Grand Prix score of 72.957% at Rotterdam. Ashley’s first European competition wearing the Stars ‘n’ Stripes was on Havanna at the World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany in April.

Charlotte Jorst of Reno, Nevada, is ranked 38th in the world on Kastel’s Nintendo, a KWPN stallion 19 years old. The Danish-born rider and Nintendo that she has partnered for more than eight years, is ranked 38th in the world. The pair scored 71.565% at Aachen last week. As well as Nations Cups at Aachen both this year and last, Charlotte and Nintendo have competed at six other Nations Cups on both sides of the Atlantic as well as the 2019 World Cup Final.

Katie Duerrhammer of Greenwood Village, Colorado on Quartett, 14-year-old German Sport Horse gelding, based on 71.456% in the Grand Prix at Aachen stands fifth highest American pair to rank 76th. The pair also won a national Grand Prix a week earlier at Rotterdam.

Katie has also been nominated on Paxton, the 11-year-old Westfalen gelding, ranked 120th in the world.

Alice Tarjan of Oldwick, New Jersey, rode the nine-year-old American-bred mare Serenade MF to a Grand Prix result of 71.239% at Rotterdam and are ranked 75th.

Sarah Tubman of Wellington and First Apple, the 12-year-old KWPN stallion that Sarah rode to 2019 Pan American Games gold, is ranked 81st in the world.

The USEF added the CDI4* in Kronberg, Germany July 13-17 as an additional observation event.

Steffen Peters, Katie Duerrhammer, Sarah Tubman and Jan Ebeling appear likely to compete and possibly Alice Tarjan.

The USA team is expected to be announced after Kronberg.
