BALVE, Germany, June 12, 2022–Isabell Werth rode DSP Quantaz to German Freestyle Championship gold Sunday with Frederic Wandres on Duke of Britain FRH taking silver.
Isabell and the 12-year-old German Sport Horse stallion ranked No. 6 in the world, received a score of 85.450% from the all-German ground jury after three straight days of competition. The duo earned bronze in the Grand Prix Special championship.
Frederic and the 15-year-old British-bred Hanoverian Duke of Britain scored 83.375%% for silver to add to the silver in the Grand Prix Special a day earlier.
Olympic eventing gold medal rider Ingrid Klimke on Franziskus earned bronze on 82.825%.
Benjamin Werndl on the 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding Famoso OLD was fourth on 81.375%.
Dorothee Schneider, who earned championship gold on Showtime FRH, her double Olympic gold medal partner, did not compete the 16-year-old in the Freestyle. Instead, she rode Faustus for fifth place on 80.400%.
Balve was the first of two competitions to decide on the team of four riders and horses for the world championships in Herning, Denmark in early August. The team will be named after the CHIO in Aachen at the end of the month.
