BALVE, Germany, June 10, 2022–Dorothee Schneider and Showtime FRH won the German Championship Grand Prix Friday on the highest score for the two-time Olympic gold medal pair.

Dorothee and Showtime, a 16-year-old Hanoverian gelding, scored 82.360% for the victory in the first major competition for the pair since the Tokyo Olympics last July.

Showtime was ridden by Dorothee on gold medal teams at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics and the 2019 European Championships.

Isabell Werth on DSP Quantaz, a 12-year-old German Sport Horse stallion ranked No. 6 in the world, was runner-up on 80.160% from the ground jury of five German judges.

Isabell also competed Emilio, the 16-year-old Westfalen gelding, on which she was awarded 76.500% for fourth place. Neither Quantaz nor Emilio have competed on championship teams.

Frederic Wandres on Duke of Britain FRH, a British-bred Hanoverian gelding, scored 78.020% for third. Frederic and Duke, ranked 16th in the world, have competed on German teams at Nations Cups but never a championship though they qualified for the World Cup Final in Las Vegas in 2020 that was canceled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ingrid Klimke, a two-time Olympic team gold medalist in eventing, rode Franziskus, a 14-year-old Hanoverian stallion, to a score of 75.040% for fifth place.

Balve is the first of two competitions the other being the CHIO in Aachen, Germany at the end of this month, that will decide the team of four riders and horses for the world championships in Herning, Denmark in early August.

Germany has won seven of the eight world championships staged once every four years.

Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, world No. 1 and team and individual gold medalist on TSF Dalera BB at the Tokyo Olympics and 2021 European Championships and World Cup champion two months ago are not competing as Jessica is pregnant with her second child.
