Michael Barisone has been placed by SafeSport back on temporary suspension a month after the U.S. Olympic dressage team reserve rider was found not guilty by reason of insanity of two counts of attempted murder.

The 57-year-old Michael is still in custody awaiting a decision by the court on his future after the jury verdict involving the shooting in August 2019 of Lauren Kanarek, a tenant at Michael’s farm, and shooting at her boyfriend, Robert Goodwin.

The farm at Long Valley, New Jersey, where the incident occurred has been sold. However, the reserve rider on the 2008 Olympic team and a trainer of both Olympic dressage and eventing riders still owns a farm in Loxahatchee, an equestrian community neighboring Wellington, Florida.

SafeSport, an organization set up and funded by taxpayers and U.S. Olympic sports federations, was created to deal with abuse.

Michael was initially listed in August 2019 as temporarily suspended. The latest status report was based on what were stated as “allegations of misconduct” and specified no contact.
