TEMECULA, California, May 6, 2022–Steffen Peters on the Tokyo Olympics silver medal mount Suppenkasper was the clear winner of the CDI3* Grand Prix Friday, the last competition to determine the short list of up to eight American combinations to go to Europe for selection of the world championships team.

Steffen, a five-time Olympian for the U.S. and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding, were awarded 76.848%. There were big differences in the scores from the five-judge panel–a high of 80.326% from Jane Weatherwax of the U.S. and a low of 72.391% from Canada’s Birgit Epskamp-Valkenborg.

Steffen of San Diego, California and Suppenkasper that were also on the 2018 World Equestrian Games silver medal team, stands second behind Adrienne Lyle and Salvino, on the same two silver medal teams, on the U.S. rankings.

Nick Wagman, also of San Diego who was the Tokyo Games reserve with Don John, was runner-up on 69.761%. This was the first competition for Nick and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding since this same event a year ago.

Matthew Cunningham of San Diego on Ribery placed third on 65.500%.
