MARIAKALNOK, Hungary, May 6, 2022–Benjamin Werndl and Daily Mirror won the World Cup Short Grand Prix Friday to launch the German rider’s bid for a start at the Omaha Final next April.

Benjamin and the 18-year-old Westfalen gelding were awarded 72.974% for the win in the first World Cup qualifying event in Europe and North America for 2022-23. The pair competed in the 2019 World Cup Final, though he has logged the most success recently on Famoso, a 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding.

Hungary’s Csaba Szokola on Enying was second on 65.184%.

Canada’s Evi Strasser and Disney Tyme placed third on 65.000%. Evi also competed Deja Vu Tyme in the CDI3* Grand Prix for a score of 63.630% and seventh place.

The Freestyle to determine points toward World Cup standings is scheduled for Saturday.

Hungary’s Anikó Losonczy and Dior S, 14-year-old KWPN gelding, won the  CDI3* Grand Prix on 68.065%,

Germans Martin Pfeiffer on Riccio placed second on 67.913% with Jill Hollweg-de Rider on Whitney third on 67.565%.
