SYDNEY, April 29, 2022–The New Zealand partnership of Gaylene Lennard and Jax Johnson won the CDI3* Grand Prix Special Friday a month after making their Big Tour debut in their homeland.
Gaylene and the New Zealand-bred 12-year-old gelding (Johnson x Anamour) scored 70.000% for the win in only their second CDI Grand Prix. The pair placed third in the Grand Prix a day earlier in their pursuit of a start in the world championships in Herning, Denmark in August.
Gaylene, 59 years old, a former show horse rider who lives on a dairy farm, competed in the first CDI on Jax in Taupo, New Zealand in March before flying to Australia for this event.
Australia’s Jayden Brown debuting Willlingapark Sky Diamond at Grand Prix Special scored 69.894% for second place.
John Thompson, a New Zealander who lives in Australia, rode Chemistry to third place on 67.319%. The duo won the Grand Prix Thursday.
