WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 26, 2022–The USA’s Ashley Holzer on Valentine posted a personal best score to win the Global Dressage Festival CDI3* Grand Prix Special Saturday while Germany’s Christoph Koschel on the American-owned Dünensee won the CDI4* Special to complete double victories for both combinations.
Ashley and her 12-year-old Hanoverian mare were awarded 72.170% for the 3* victory while Christoph and the 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding scored 69.957% to win the 4*.
Both combinations won the Grand Prix Thursday in the final Big Tour competitions at the Global Dressage Festival winter circuit of seven CDIs.
Katie Duerrhammer of Greenwood Village, Colorado and Paxton placed second on 70.255%.
Laurence Vanommeslaghe of Belgium on Havalon was third on 70.106%.
Ashley, whose previous Grand Prix Special best on Valentine was 67.234% posted a month ago, received helpful advice from a visitor this week that gave her confidence to deal with what she thought might be a horse tired after the three-month season.
The advice came from Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, Olympic and European champion and world No. 1, in Wellington for a masterclass.
“She was like, ‘Ash–just trust her, she’ll do it, just trust her.’ It was what I needed to hear so it’s really been helpful.”
Christoph took over the ride on Dünensee, owned by Terri and Devon Kane’s Diamante Farm of Wellington, this winter.
“I had a super nice feeling today,” he said. “He was really light in my hand, and… okay, we have end of the season and then maybe you don’t have the same energy like the first CDI, but I was super happy because he was really fighting for me in there still.”
Susan Dutta of Wellington on Don Design DC, a 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding, was runner-up on 69.255%.
Naïma Moreira Laliberté of Canadian on Statesman was third on 68.915%.
