WAYNE, Illinois, Aug. 29, 2021–Alice Tarjan became the United States Grand Prix champion on Candescent Sunday and took silver on Donatella M while also capturing Developing Grand Prix gold on the American-bred Serenade MF and silver on Harvest.
Alice of Oldwick, New Jersey who has developed all her horses from youngsters bought online from videos capped the three-phase Festival of Champions with victory on Candescent in the Freestyle Sunday on 77.165% and placing second on Donatella with 72.549%.
Scores on Candescent, an 11-year-old Hanoverian mare, of 73.675% in the Grand Prix and 71.765% in the Special earned Alice the championship. Donatella, a 10-year-old Oldenburg mare, awarded 71.782% in the Grand Prix and 71.977% in the Special, was the 2020 Developing Grand Prix champion.
Katie Johnson, 32, of Greenwood Village, Colorado on Quartett, 14-year-old Brandenburg gelding, took the Grand Prix championship bronze.
Alice will leave with Candescent for the prestigious World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany in two weeks for the 42-year-old rider’s first ever European competition.
Alice rode the American-bred Serenade MF, an eight-year-old Hanoverian mare, to gold in the Developing Grand Prix on a score of 75.833% in the Grand Prix and 75.048% in the Intermediate II. Serenade (Sir Donnerhall x Don Principe) was bred by Maryanna Hayman of Columbus, North Carolina.
On Harvest, nine-year-old KWPN stallion (Connaisseur x Ulft), the compilation of the Grand Prix and Int. II scores earned the pair silver.
Emily Miles based at La Cygne, Kansas, took bronze on Java Dulce.
At the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida Alice and Serenade won the Lövsta Future Challenge Grand Prix title and was reserve on Harvest.
