The Spanish Olympic dressage team of Beatriz Ferrer-Salat/Elegance, Claudio Castilla/Alcaide, José Antonio Garcia Mena/Sorento and Severo Jurado/Fendi T was announced Saturday.
The team, with the reserve not specified, is:
*Beatriz Ferrer-Salat, 55, with Elegance, 12-year-old KWPN gelding, owned by Deliber S.L.
*Claudio Castilla, 38, with Alcaide, 16-year-old Lusitano stallion, owned by Claudio Castilla-Yeguada la Perla
*José Antonio Garcia Mena, 40, with Sorento, 14-year-old Westfalen gelding, owned by Catalina Mena Carrasco
*Severo Jurado, 32, with Fendi T. 11-year-old KWPN gelding, owned by Severo and Van Olst Horses
Beatriz is going to her fifth Olympics, having competed at the 1996, 2000, 2004 earning team silver and individual bronze, and 2016. She has also competed at three World Equestrian Games to take team bronze and individual silver in 2002 as well as nine European Championships. She recently rode Elegance to the Spanish Championship for the rider’s sixth straight national Grand Prix title and ninth overall.
Claudio and Alcaide competed for Spain at the 2016 Olympics, the 2018 World Games and 2017 and 2019 European Championships. He rode Jade de MV at the 2010 WEG and 2009 and 2011 Europeans.
José’s accomplishments include the 2010 and 2014 World Games and the 2013 and 2015 European Championships.
Severo rode at the 2016 Olympics, 2018 World Games, five straight years of World Young Horse Championships to claim five golds, the 2008 and 2009 European Young Rider Championships and the 2017 senior Europeans.
