WELLINGTON, Florida, Feb. 14, 2021–Canada’s Pia Fortmuller rode Frieda to qualify for the Lövsta Future Challenge Developing Grand Prix Final Sunday, a month after capturing the final of the 2020 Developing Prix St. Georges that had been delayed a year by the coronavirus pandemic.
Pia and the 10-year-old Hanoverian mare (Fuerstenball OLD x Roulettoa) were awarded 72.353% for the victory that qualifies the pair for the $15,000 final at the end of the Global Dressage Festival winter-long circuit at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. She has owned Frieda since the horse was found by her partner, Lars Busch, at the Verden, Germany young horse auction at two years of age.
Marcus Orlob of Annandale, New Jersey and Spirit of Joy won the Prix St. Georges Future Challenge on a score of 72.646% to earn a start in the $10,000 final also at the end of the 12-week circuit.
Marcus rode the Westfalen gelding to the U.S. six-year-old championship last August for the German born rider’s first American title.
Spain’s Pablo Gomez Molina on Servus Ymas was second on 69.926% to also qualify for the final.
