DEAUVILLE, France, July 20, 2019–Mary Hanna, a five-time Olympian for Australia, on Syriana posted her highest score ever outside her homeland to win the CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday.
Mary rode the 13-year-old Westfalen mare Syriana to a score of 75.545%, that was thehighest score ever outside Australia and the second highest in her career. Mary, 64 years old, was awarded 75.950% on Umbro in a CDI3* freestyle at Orange, Australia in February, 2015.
The result came a day after the duo won the Grand Prix for the pair’s first victory in only their third Big Tour event.
Mary began competing Syriana a month ago after Germany-based Malin Wahlkamp-Nilsson of Sweden began the horse’s Big Tour career. In addition to five Olympics, Mary has competed in four World Equestrian Games and three World Cup Finals.
Annabelle Collins who rides for Bermuda placed second on Joyero VG on 72.270% with Maxime Collard of France on Cupido PB was third on 71.610%.
Belgium’s Laurence Roos on Fil Rouge won the Grand Prix Special on 73.383%.
Bertrand Liegard of France on Star Wars placed second on 71.213% with Mary Hanna on Calanta third on 70.468%.
