MUNICH, Germany, Nov. 23, 2018–Hubertus Schmidt and Escolar won the Munich Indoor CDI4* Grand Prix Friday in the stallion’s Big Tour debut, a day after riding the horse’s younger brother to victory in in his first international Grand Prix at the same competition. Benjamin Werndl riding Famoso OLD also in the gelding’s first international Grand Prix placed second.

Hubertus and the nine-year-old Westfalen stallion (Estobar NRW x Fürst Piccolo 2) scored 75.435 per cent for the victory in the Grand Prix for the Special. The pair competed at small tour in just one show in 2017 and one in 2016.

The German Olympic team rider and Escorial, an eight-year-old stallion and the full brother of Escolar, won the Grand Prix for the Freestyle Thursday in what also was a debut at Big Tour and with no previous international show record.

Benjamin Werndl also of Germany and Famoso, nine-year-old Oldenburg gelding, scored 75.413 per cent for second place Friday. Benjamin and Famoso competed in one event at small tour in 2017.

Austria’s Ulrike Prunthaller on Bartlgut’s Duccio placed third in Friday’s Grand Prix on 69.891 per cent
