WARENDORF, Germany, Aug. 24, 2018–The German team for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon was announced Friday with Isabell Werth selected with Bella Rose and Jessica von Bredow-Werndl on Dalera over Helen Langehanenberg on Damsey FRH.
The team for dressage that starts Sept. 12 for two days of Grand Prix to decide team medals is:
Sönke Rothenberger, 23, and Cosmo, 11-year-old KWPN gelding, owned by Rothenberger in Gestüt Erlenhof GmbH & Ralph Uwe Westhoff
Dorothee Schneider, 49, and Sammy Davis Jr., 12-year-old German Sport Horse gelding, owned by Matthias Herbert
Isabell Werth, 49, and Bella Rose, 14-year-old Westfalen mare owned by Madeleine Winter-Schulze with reserves Weihegold OLD, 13-year-old Oldenburg mare owned by Christine Arns-Krogmann or Emilio, 12-year-old Westfalen gelding owned by Madeleine Winter-Schulze and Isabell Werth
Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, 32, and TSF Dalera BB, 11-year-old Trakehner mare, owned by Beatrice A. Bürchler-Keller with reserve Zaire-E, 14-year-old KWPN mare owned by Aubenhausen GbR.
Reserve is: Helen Langehanenberg, 36, and Damsey FRH, 16-year-old Hanoverian stallion, owned by Louise Leatherdale & Susanne Meyer of the United States.
The announcement came after Helen competed Damsey in a national show Thursday to demonstrate the pair’s readiness for a championship following a five-month break from competition when Helen gave birth to her second child.
Sönke and Cosmo were on Germany’s gold medal teams at the 2016 Olympics and the 2017 European Championships where they also became one of only five combinations in history to score at least 90 per cent in the Grand Prix Freestyle. The pair won team gold and individual bronze at the 2014 European Young Rider Championships.
Dorothee rode Sammy Davis on the 2017 European Championships gold medal team. She competed Showtime at the 2016 Olympic gold medal team and Diva Royal for team silver at the 2012 Olympics.
Isabell Werth is the most decorated Olympic equestrian with 10 medals earned in five Olympics from 1992, including team gold and individual silver on Weihegold in 2016. She has also won three World Games team gold medals, with the 2014 championships on Bella Rose. Of her four World Cup titles, two have been on Weihegold, in 2017 and 2018. In the European Championships, she has competed on 10 gold and one silver medal teams and claimed seven gold and one silver individual or freestyle medals. She has been ranked No. 1 in the world on three different horses since 2001. Isabell is the only rider ever to score at least 80 per cent on three different horses (Weihegold, Emilio and Bella Rose) and one of five to achieve at least 90 per cent in the Freestyle, which she did on Weihegold at the 2017 European Championships along with team mate Sönke Rothenberger on Cosmo. She is ranked No. 1 in the world on Weihegold and No. 2 on Emilio.
Jessica von Bredow-Werndl began competing Dalera at Big Tour in March ths year with the pair’s only team competition on the winning Nations Cup squad at Aachen, Germany last month. Her championship team was on Unee BB at the 2015 European Championships as well as four World Cup Finals.
