HAMBURG, Germany. May 10, 2018–Australia’s Kristy Oatley on Du Soleil posted a personal best score to win the Hamburg Dressage Derby CDI4* Grand Prix Thursday for the third straight victory in the past month and the most consecutive first places in two decades of Big Tour competition.
Kristy and the 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding that she competed at the 2016 Olympics and 2017 World Cup Final scored 72.543 per cent, surpassing the previous high score of 72.065 per cent the pair posted just a month ago.
The score to top the field of 25 starting combinatons also was the highest for any combination seeking selection for the Australian team for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in September.
She also placed 13th on 66.130 per cent on Qualia, in the 13-year-old Oldenburg mare’s CDI debut. Qualia is a daughter of Kristy’s 2006 WEG and 2008 Olympic mount Quando-Quando out of a Donnerhall mare.
The 39-year-old German-based rider’s record includes four Olympics, three World Games and three World Cup Finals as well as the open European Championships in 2003.
Germany’s Jan-Dirk Giesselmann on Real Dancer FRH placed second on 72.304 per cent with Finland’s Emma Kanerva on Heartbreaker third on 70.587 per cent.
