KEYSOE, England, Mar. 17, 2018–Gareth Hughes and Classic Briolinca overcame a rocky couple of years to claim a doubleheader at the Keysoe CDI3*, winning their first Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday after taking the Grand Prix a day earlier.
Gareth, a British team bronze medal rider at the 2013 European Championship, rode the 12-year-old KWPN mare to a score of 75.590 per cent in the musical performance. A day earlier the pair won the Grand Prix.
This was their first international competition since May last year when they retired in the Grand Prix Special at Compiègne, France. The pair withdrew from the Rotterdam CDIO5 Nations Cup a month later.
Britain’s Olympic team medalist Fiona Bigwood on Kjaerholm’s Abutsiaq placed second on 72.835 per cent in the first international Big Tour competition for the 14-year-old Danish Warmblood mare.
The British-based. Danish rider Ulrik Moelgaard on Michigan was third on 71.850 per cent.
