ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, June 23, 2017–Emmelie Scholtens rode Apache to a personal best score to win the CDI3* Grand Prix Friday, with fellow Netherlands’ rider Edward Gal on Glock’s Zonik runnerup.
Emmelie and the 12-year-old KWPN stallion scored 75.880 per cent for the win, the second since starting Big Tour two years ago and beating the pair’s previous best of 75.780 per cent set at this same event a year ago. This was only the sixth show for Apache since beginning Grand Prix two years ago, all within the Netherlands.
Edward Gal, the two-time Olympian and competing the nine-year-old Danish Warmblood stallion in only their second CDI Grand Prix, scored 75.440 per cent for second place.
The pair made their CDI debut just three weeks ago winning both the Grand Prix and the Special and built anticipation for the performance here, Holland’s premier horse show.
Adrienne Lyle of the United States making her European debut on the 10-year-old stallion Salvino was third on 72.420 per cent. The pair made only one previous CDI Big Tour start before Friday’s performance, at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida three months ago.
