ACHLEITEN, Austria, June 11, 2017–Portugal’s Boaventura Freire and Sai Baba Plus won the CDI4* Grand Prix Special Sunday, two days after logging their first Big Tour victory. Canada’s Jill Irving and Arthur, competing in Europe for the first time, were second with a personal best score.
Boaventura Freire and the 10-year-old Hanoverian stallion scored 70.412 per cent for the win after a year at Grand Prix and following success in young horse competitions in 2012/13.
Jill Irving and Arthur, a 12-year-old KWPN gelding owned by Windhaven Farm, scored 69.471 per cent.
The USA’s Jennifer Hoffmann and Florentinus V placed third on 69.200 per cent in the first Grand Prix Special for the Germany-based pair that began Big Tour a month ago.
Arthur was competed at Big Tour in 2016 by Ashley Holzer, Jill’s long time coach, before Jill took over the ride at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida in February this year.
Jill and P.J. Rizvi with Breaking Dawn are made their European debuts here with Ashley Holzer, who coaches both riders. Ashley, based in New York and Wellington, began riding for the United States three months ago after a career that including four Olympics for Canada.
