GLADSTONE, New Jersey, May 21, 2017–Kaitlin Blythe and Don Principe became the United States Brentina Cup Under-25 champions in winning the Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday.
Kaitlin of Rougemont, North Carolina and the 18-year-old Hanoverian stallion that she competed on the Wellington, Florida winter circuit scored 69.300 per cent to capture the freestyle and attained an overall score of 66.769 per cent from the Int. II, Grand Prix and freestyle.
Natalie Pai of Wellington, Florida and Unlimited placed second overall after finishing third in the freestyle on a score of 65.950 per cent while Molly Paris of Charlotte, North Carolina on Countess was third overall but placed second in the freestyle on 66.975 per cent.
Kaitlin expressed thanks to Sam Silver, the attorney who represented her in a successful challenge to a two-month automatic suspension of Don Principe after the horse was found to have traces of a banned substance. The manufacturer admitted after extensive testing the substance had contaminated the product during production.
The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) lifted suspension of Kaitlin and Adrienne Lyle but maintained the suspension of the horses Don Principe and Horizon. An appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport had the suspension on the horses lifted after a month so they could compete in these championships.
The FEI has informed the attorney that it will seek to have CAS uphold the FEI’s power to impose automatic suspensions for certain doping offenses.
