Liebling II has ended his globe-trotting days as a mount for five different riders on both sides of the Atlantic to return to Carl Hester’s training center in England to retire.
The Holsteiner gelding by Lorentin I that became 17 years old this year was competed by Anna Ross Davies on Great Britain’s team at the 2007 European Championships.
But he enjoyed his biggest successes with Carl when he was ridden on the British team that won silver at the Europeans in Windsor, England in 2009.
The horse was bought for Canada’s Cheryl Meisner to compete in 2010 but Carl took over the ride again later the same year and helped Britain win silver at the World Equestrian Games at Kentucky in 2010.
Liebling, or “Lenny” as Carl called him, was leased to Yvonne Losos de Muñiz in her unsuccessful campaign to represent the Dominican Republic at the 2012 Olympics.
Jonna Schelstraete of the Netherlands took over competing the horse internationally in 2013 with several high placings throughout Europe.
