FALSTERBO, Sweden, July 13–Tinne Vilhelmsson-Silfvén who is preparing Don Auriello to peak at the European Championships late next month, won the World Dressage Masters CDI5* Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday a day after capturing the Grand Prix in the €100,000 (US$130,000) competition.
The order of finish of the three Swedish Olympians was the same in the Freestyle as the Grand Prix –Tinne and the 11-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding scored 79.475 per cent, Patrik Kittel and the 14-year-old KWPN stallion Watermill Scandic H.B.C. at 78.350 per cent for second and Minna Telde and Santana third on 75.950 per cent.
In the Grand Prix Friday, Tinne, who was marking her 46th birthday, and Don Auriello scored 76.426 per cent while Patrik and Scandic were at 73.660 per cent and Minna and Santana were awarded 72.468 per cent.
The Grand Prix Special was won for the second straight year by Norway’s Lilann Jebsen on Pro-Set with 68.458 per cent with Lisbeth Seierskilde and Jonstrupgårdens Raneur second on 67.792 per cent and Jeanne Hogberg and Liza Minelli third on 66.479 per cent.
This competition was a must-ride for prospects for the Swedish team to go to the Europeans in neighboring Denmark in late August.
Preparations for the Europeans which is a qualifier for teams for next year’s World Equestrian Games along with two other international shows in western Europe were blamed by WDM and the organizers for the lack of stronger entries outside of Sweden.
Sweden’s Cecilia Andrén Dorselius scratched her Lennox from the Special after the horse sustained an injury.
Ahead of the competition, Ellen Schulten Baumer of Germany withdrew because of a small injury to her horse Grosso’s Gentle and Painted Black to be ridden by Spain’s Morgan Barbançon did not pass veterinary inspection.
