HARTPURY, England, July 6–Charlotte Dujardin rode Uthopia to victory in the Grand Prix Freestyle at the Hartpury Festival of Dressage CDI3* Saturday night, a day after winning the Grand Prix in improving scores for the pair of Olympic gold medalists.
Charlotte and the 12-year-old KWPN stallion (Metall x Inspekteur) scored 82.625 per cent in the Freestyle and 76.404 per cent in the Grand Prix, both personal best scores for the pair in their fourth show since starting to compete internationally in March this year.
Charlotte was the double London Olympic gold medalist for Great Britain on Valegro while Uthopia was ridden Carl Hester, one of the stallion’s owners and mentor of Charlotte. The horse has been at the center a legal dispute involving the other owner.
In the Freestyle of four starting combinations, Denmark’s Anders Dahl and Wie-Atlantico De Ymas were second on 69.600 per cent after finishing third in the Grand Prix on 67.277 per cent.
Great Britain’s Amy Stovold and Debonnet were third in the Freestle on 67.875 per cent.
Jonna Schelstraete of the Netherlands rode Liebling II to fourth place with 65.000 per cent in only the second CDI for the pair since the horse was acquired after the Dominican Republic’s Yvonne Losos de Muñiz made an unsuccessful bid for a start at the 2012 Olympics. The Holsteiner gelding, now 16 years old, was previously competed by Carl Hester on the British teams at the 2010 World Equestrian Games and the 2009 European Championships at Windsor, England and by Anna Louise Ross Davies at the 2007 European Championships in Turin, Italy.
Fellow Briton Michael Eilberg on Half Moon Delphi placed second in the Grand Prix with 73.000 per cent that was the best Grand Prix result since the pair started the Big Tour 16 months ago.
