OLDENBURG, Germany, Nov. 10–Victoria Max-Theurer captured her second straight win with Blind Date when the pair won the Olympic Grand Prix Special at the Internationale Oldenburger Pferdetage CDI4* Saturday.
The Austrian two-time Olympian and the 10-year-old Hanoverian (Breitling W x Donnice x Donnerhall) scored 75.022 per cent for the victory with Australia’s Hayley Beresford on the Aussie-bred Jaybee Alabaster second on 72.467 per cent and the Netherlands’ Madeleine Witte-Vrees on Blom’s Wynton third on 70.667 per cent.
The winning combination took the Grand Prix on Friday with a score of 73.191 per cent with Madeleine Witte-Vrees on Blom’s Wynton were second on 71.383 per cent and Germany’s Fabienne Lütkemeier on D’Agostino third on 70.723 per cent.
This was only the second show for Vici and Blind Date since she took over the ride from Brigitte Wittig. Wolfram Wittig, Brigitte’s husband, began training Vici and her horses after her father retired.
Vici competed at both the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics.
This show was also only the second CDI for Jaybee Alabaster when ridden by the Germany-based Hayley Bereseford.
The horse was trained and competed by Rachel Sanna and began their international Grand Prix career in May, 2008. All competitions were in Australia until the pair won the Pacific League for a place in the World Cup Final at ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, in April. Rachel and the 14-year-old Hanoverian (Alabaster x Gloria x Glorieux) competed at one Olympic qualifying event in Germany but dropped the campaign.
Hayley also competed in the qualifiers but was not selected for the Australian team.
She competed the horse for the first time in Poland in September with a second place finish in the Grand Prix Special.
The pair placed fifth with 69.936 per cent in Friday’s Grand Prix.
