TREFFEN, Austria, Sept. 9–Olympic team bronze medal pair Edward Gal and Glock’s Undercover notched their first CDI victories with personal best scores in winning both the Grand Prix and the Kür in the Dressage International CDI4* at the Glock Horse Performance Center.
Edward and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding (Ferro x Mimosavrouwe x Donnerhall) won the Freestyle on Sunday a day after taking the Grand Prix at the tournament of both a CDI4* and CDI3* that had total prize money of €200,000 (US$256,000), making it among the richest single events in the world.
Edward and Undercover scored 83.775 per cent to win the freestyle, surpassing the 80.267 per cent that was their previous best and posted at last month’s Olympics in London where they were on the Dutch bronze medal team.
Valentina Truppa and Eremo del Castegno who rode as individuals for Italy in London, were second in the freestyle on 79.950 per cent while Germany’s Isabell Werth and El Santo NRW placed third on 77.575 per cent.
Claudia Fassaert and Donnerfee, who also competed in London for Belgium, won the Grand Prix Special on Sunday with a score of 70.067 per cent, Sweden’s Juliette Ramel and Ten Points were second on 66.689 per cent and Austria’s Karina Prochaska and Dow Jones were third on 66.533 per cent.
In Saturday’s Grand Prix, the partnership of Edward and Undercover that competed in their first international event in April this year, scored 77.617 per cent for the top spot in the first competition since last month’s Games where the pair were awarded 75.395 per cent in the Grand Prix, their previous best.
The Italian combination of Valentina and Eremo del Castegno were second on 73.574 per cent with Hans Peter and Tango third on 72.766 per cent.
Earlier, Hans Peter and Whitney van’t Genthof won the CDI3* Grand Prix Special with a score of 75 533 per cent, Denmark’s Bo Thomas Hoestrup and Cajo second on 69.822 per cent and Austria’s Karin Kosak and Lucy’s Day third on 69.222 per cent.
